Mike and I met in Austin, Texas in 1999 at a barbeque at a friend's house near Lake Travis. After being single for 18 years and at 52 years old, I had pretty much given up on meeting my dream guy. But, when he walked through that door...all bets were off! Sixteen months later, we were married and living on the Intracoastal Waterway in Palm Beach County Florida. And I thought South Padre was beautiful!
But I get ahead of myself! I grew up in Waxahachie, Texas, a small rural town just south of Big D. After working my way through East Texas State U., elementary school teaching and principaling for 30 years, and raising my son, Jeff, as a single mom, meeting Mike was a serendipitous event that forever changed my life in such a positive way that I still pinch myself occasionally to make sure I'm not dreaming! Did I mention the man has the patience of Job?
Mike grew up in Harlingen, Texas, attended the University of Texas and never left Austin, until we moved to South Florida in 2000 when Motorola transferred him. I was heartbroken when he told me about the transfer, but lucky for me, he invited me to come along! And I accepted!
We immediately started pursuing our lifelong, mutual dreams of travelling the world. Since we married in 2000, we have travelled extensively in the US, lived in San Miguel de Allende and Guanajuato, Mexico for a couple of months in '08 & '09, attended Spanish language school in Costa Rica for a month, travelled to China, Ireland, New Zealand, Paris twice, Spain twice, Portugal, and have taken several Carribean cruises as well as an Alaska, Mediterranean, Scandinavian/Baltic, and trans-Atlantic cruise.
Tiring of the mosquitos, humidity, hurricanes and SoFlo in general, we sold our home in May 2013. As of June 2013, we fulfilled a lifelong dream of living in San Miguel de Allende, Guanajuato, Mexico. We are in the process of building a passive solar designed casa with solar panels and water reclamation system in the Barrio Obraje. It should be completed around February 2014.
The Airstream is being stored at a covered facility in Edinberg, Texas in the Rio Grande Valley. The Silver Chalet will serve as our US home away from home as we continue to explore the fabulous National Parks of the US.
