Silver Chalet
Our 'Silver Chalet' is a 2010 28' CCD Airstream International travel trailer towed with a white 2010 GMC 3/4 ton diesel truck. Since we plan to spend 7-8 months of the year in the Chalet, we decided the 28' model would give us just enough extra living space to comfortably enjoy our time on the road without totally getting on one another's last nerve. I particularly like my own little corner on the sofa! Walk space around the queen-size bed is a definite plus since I would have detested having to crawl over Mike or visa versa if need be in the middle of the night!
I am crazy about the very colorful Amy Butler organic bed linens, throw pillows and matching towels I found at Bed Bath and Beyond. My goal was to decorate with a theme of continuity for such a small living space...and it works quite nicely for us! Awnings on 3 sides of the Chalet were definitely worth the added expense because they keep the interior temperature at a more comfortable level. Our Corelle dinnerware is lightweight and travels well on the rubberized shelf liner. The large square plastic containers from the Container Store keep clothes and staple food stuffs in place in the overhead storage bins. For storage on either side of the bed, the CS's stackable plastic drawers are perfect additions for keeping socks, underwear, and miscellaneous items neatly arranged.
Finding a set of stainless steel cookwear at BB&B for $50 was an unexpected bonanza. The entire set fits perfectly into one of the storage bins under the sofa and cleans up to perfection with Barkeeper's Friend scouring powder. Coffee made with a French press coffee maker is ideal for us.
We protect the light colored sofa fabric with 2 twin sized blankets that I wash once a month. The Swifter wet mop system has worked out well for us and stores perfectly in another of the under the sofa bins. Cleaning the interior is a snap with the Swifter and Lysol disinfecting wipes! Just wish my house was this easy to clean!
I'm not ready to be a full-timer because I still want my 'nest', but Mike would sell everything and travel 365 days of the year. Maybe someday...
